Chairman Bans Fans' Views (August 26, 2008)
Mark Harrison, chairman of UniBond League Division One South club Gresley Rovers, has shut down the fans' forum on the club's official website over "offensive topics."
The decision was taken last Friday and club officials are to review the situation before deciding whether to reinstate it.
Harrison said in a statement on the website on Friday: "Having logged on to the Fans' Forum this afternoon I was shocked and appalled at a certain entry by Tony28.
"As it has been pointed out, we are working really hard to get this club turned around and it doesn't help when people like him, and yes I am singling you out Tony28, post offensive topics.
"I have taken the decision to suspend the Forum for a period of time so that we can review it and decide if we really need it, or to bring it back in a new format having more control over who uses it.
"And before you start shouting about your rights as supporters and the rights to post topics about the club, let me remind you that we provide the Forum to discuss our club, but also with consideration to people who might wander on to it.
"For you so-called 'supporters' of this club who time after time try your very best to diminish this club by posting what can only be called mindless drivel, let me remind you about what we are trying to do here and why.
"We are trying hard to get this club back on the straight and narrow and repair bridges that have been destroyed over the last five years! Why should I and my fellow directors go out there and try to sell this club as a community club and sit in a meeting with potential sponsors only to find that when we logged on earlier today a topic that was posted was totally out of line!
"I am still angry - we are looking for support and patience, not to kick us when we are down.
"I really enjoy the forum and I always welcome feedback, good or bad, but please don't abuse this facility, just think about what you say before you post it and help us promote this club as a club that is a welcoming club.
"If anybody wants to discuss this with me please come up and have a chat, preferably using your true name."
