You will have seen in the press over the past week or so the problems we have been experiencing at the football club.
The fire at the end of last season has resulted in us being unable to play football at Edge Hill and with a ‘ground share’ not being a viable option there was no alternative but to withdraw the club from the Midland Football Alliance and suspend football activities with immediate effect.
This was a decision that was not made lightly after a great deal of time and effort had been spent in getting back up to level 5 of the National Non League pyramid having reformed the club some 6 seasons ago.
Despite the problems the football committee and I are staying together and are determined to ensure that the club does not disappear off the football map. To this end work has already commenced to secure the future of the football club.
The first of our fund raising events has been arranged for Thursday 4th September 2008 at Belvedere Sports and Social Club. We are hosting a ‘Sporting Evening’ where the guest speaker is Steve Kindon supported by Comedian Mr. Austin Knight. Steve played football for, amongst others, Wolves and Burnley, and is renowned as one of the funniest after dinner speakers on the circuit.
The event starts at 7pm with a 3 course meal being served at 8pm.
The tickets for this event are priced at £25 per person or £225 for a table of 10 and can be secured by contacting Andy Bromley at the email address below.
Belvedere Club hols 330 people and I would dearly love to see it full on this evening.
Please support us in our efforts and help us to keep the institution which is Stapenhill Football Club alive.
